Subject: Two volunteer opportunities with METRO Light Rail Date: Friday, December 19, 2008 3:17 PM Friends, Our friends at METRO have asked us to pass on the following information to you regarding volunteer opportunities over the coming weeks. Please note that there are TWO different opportunities to volunteer: 1. Volunteers needed for Grand Opening Activities on Saturday and Sunday, December 27 and 28 2. Volunteers needed to assist as station platform ambassadors between December 29, 2008 and January 16, 2009. ______________________________________________________________________ 1. METRO is urgently requesting additional volunteer assistance for Grand Opening Activities on Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28. “Team Leads” are needed at each station platform to coordinate the public volunteers who will be assigned to various duties at each station, and to assist riders as needed. Team Lead staffing has been divided into shifts as follows: Saturday, Dec 27 · 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. · 1:00 p.m. – 8:30 p. m. Sunday, Dec 28 · 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. · 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. A total of 66 Team Leads are needed for each day. We need 35 people for the Saturday shift and 49 people for the Sunday shift. Depending on the location, anywhere from 2 to 28 volunteers have been assigned to each station. The Team Lead’s responsibilities will be to: · Check-in volunteers as they arrive. · Assign volunteers to a specific task (based on a pre-determined allocation that will be provided to all Team Leads). · Monitor volunteer resources and make adjustments as needed (e.g., call for additional resources, or reassign extra volunteers to other stations). · Assist volunteers or the public as may be necessary. · Contact a Team Captain as needed to address issues that may arise. Training is being provided to ensure Team Leads are familiar with the system and prepared to answer questions. Training is occurring December 15 -18 and on Dec 22 & 23rd on the 13th Floor of the METRO Office in the METRO Board Room from noon to 1 p.m. (brown bag lunch). If you can help, please contact Carla Kahn at 602-744-5552 or ckahn@metrolightrail.org or Erin Seibel at 602-495-8213 or eseibel@metrolightrail.org as soon as possible. ______________________________________________________________________ 2. METRO is seeking volunteers to assist as station platform ambassadors. Following the METRO grand opening weekend METRO will have ambassadors located at various station platforms to assist the public with any questions they may have regarding the use of the light rail system. Ambassadors will be needed during the week of December 29, January 5 and January 12. A special training will be provided to all ambassadors to ensure they are familiarized with the system and prepared to answer questions. Various date, time and location options will be made available for this training. If you are interested in assisting with this effort please contact Monica Hernandez at 602-322-4427 or mhernandez@metrolightrail.org . METRO appreciates your help with the successful opening of the new light rail system.
