Subject: Weekend Closures & Restrictions on Valley Freeways Weekend of November 7 - 10 Date: Thursday, November 06, 2008 6:10 PM Weekend Closures & Restrictions on Valley Freeways Weekend of November 7 - 10 Several projects to add new lanes and make other improvements along Phoenix area freeways will require closures or lane restrictions this weekend (November 7-10). The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recommends drivers use alternate routes and allow extra travel time. And for fans headed to this weekend’s NASCAR races, be sure to call 5-1-1 for parking and travel advisories. The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will continually update 5-1-1 from 6 a.m. Friday, November 7 until at least four hours after the race on Sunday, November 9. * Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) closed between Southern Avenue and Warner Road from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (November 10) for carpool lane construction. Southbound ramps from US 60 to Loop 101 also closed. DETOUR: Traffic will detour on the southbound frontage road. * Northbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) closed between Shea Boulevard and Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (November 10) for carpool lane construction. DETOUR: Traffic can go east on Shea Boulevard and north on Tatum Boulevard. * Southbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) and Greenway Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (November 10) for carpool lane construction. Westbound Loop 101 ramp to southbound SR 51 closed. DETOUR: Drivers should use southbound Tatum Boulevard. * Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and Via de Ventura from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday (November 9) for final striping of new carpool lanes. DETOUR: Please slow down and use caution in the work zone. * Westbound I-10 narrowed to two lanes between US 60 and State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (November 10) for overhead sign work at the Broadway Curve. Westbound US 60 narrowed to one lane approaching I-10. On-ramp at Baseline Road closed. DETOUR: Be prepared to slow down and merge safely in the work zone. * Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between McClintock and Rural roads from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday (November 8) for freeway widening work. DETOUR: Please slow down and use caution in the work zone. * Eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) narrowed to two lanes between Priest Drive and Mill Avenue from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (November 9) for freeway widening work. * Southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane overnight near Carefree Highway (State Route 74) from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (November 9) and 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (November 10) for freeway widening work. Eastbound SR 74 ramp to southbound I-17 closed. DETOUR: Traffic will access southbound I-17 at the Pioneer Road interchange. * Eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway/Pecos Road) closed at 40th Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday (November 8) for asphalt repairs. DETOUR: Traffic can use Chandler Boulevard to access I-10. * Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed in both directions at the I-10 interchange from 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday (November 9) for asphalt repairs. Connecting ramps to I-10 will remain open. DETOUR: Traffic should use Chandler Boulevard and Ray Road as alternate routes to Ahwatukee.
