Subject: METRO’s safety campaign Date: Monday, October 13, 2008 5:01 PM Friends, With less than three months until the grand opening of the METRO Light Rail, testing is well underway. You may have already seen the light rail trains out on the streets as METRO staff is working to ensure the system runs smoothly and safely when it opens on December 27. Light rail trains are very quiet, and now that the trains are running, it’s important that we all know how to be safe using the light rail. METRO has worked hard to build safety features into the design of the system, incorporating improved pedestrian signals, protected turn lanes, vehicle and station design and a train-only guideway. Now the rest of us have a responsibility to learn how to utilize the tools METRO has provided to keep us safe. To assist you in learning about light rail safety, Friends of Transit has joined METRO’s safety campaign to get these important messages out into the community.
