Subject: Weekend Closures & Restrictions on Valley Freeways Weekend of September 26 ~ 29 Date: Thursday, September 25, 2008 9:00 PM Weekend Closures & Restrictions on Valley Freeways Weekend of September 26 ~ 29 Several projects to add new lanes and make other improvements along Phoenix area freeways will require closures or lane restrictions this weekend (September 26-29). The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recommends drivers use alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following restrictions are in place: * Southbound I-17 closed between Thunderbird Road and Dunlap Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (September 29) for rubberized asphalt paving. DETOUR: Use alternate routes to avoid delays. Traffic will be detoured along freeway frontage roads. Drivers should consider other freeways to avoid the closure, in addition to 19th and 35th avenues. * Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between Shea Boulevard and Thomas Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (September 29) for carpool lane construction. DETOUR: Traffic will exit and go west on Shea Boulevard, south on Hayden Road, then east on Thomas Road to Loop 101. * Northbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) closed between 32nd Street and Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (September 29) for lane striping and overhead sign work on carpool lane project. DETOUR: Traffic will exit and go north on 32nd Street, east on Shea Boulevard, then north on Tatum Boulevard to Loop 101. * Westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) narrowed to one lane between Princess Drive and Tatum Boulevard from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (September 29) for carpool lane construction. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes to avoid freeway congestion. * Northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) narrowed to one lane between Ray and Baseline roads from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday (September 27) for carpool lane construction. DETOUR: Northbound on-ramps at Ray, Warner, Elliot and Guadalupe and off ramps Warner, Elliot, Guadalupe and Baseline roads closed. Frontage roads will remain open. * Westbound I-10 closed between Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday (September 27) for tunnel maintenance. DETOUR: Traffic will detour on McDowell Road. Drivers should consider northbound I-17 starting near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport as an alternate route. * I-10 narrowed to one lane at 107th Avenue in both directions from 11 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday (September 27) and westbound only from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (September 28) for freeway widening work. DETOUR: Please slow down and merge safely in the work zone. * Southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between Dixileta Drive and Jomax Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday (September 27) for freeway widening work. DETOUR: Please slow down and merge safely in the work zone. * Northbound I-17 closed temporarily at Carefree Highway around 9 p.m. Sunday (September 28) due to blasting for nearby Maricopa County road project. DETOUR: Drivers should obey all traffic control.
