Subject: Weekend Freeway Restrictions in Phoenix Area (June 20-23) Date: Thursday, June 19, 2008 9:08 PM Weekend Freeway Restrictions in Phoenix Area (June 20-23) Freeway improvement work will require restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (June 20-23). Much of the work will occur at night. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recommends drivers consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following restrictions are in place: * Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between Hayden Road and 90th Street in Scottsdale from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (June 23) for carpool lane construction. DETOUR: Use southbound State Route 51 as an alternate route. Drivers exiting at Hayden Road will go south to Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, east to 94th Street, south on 94th/92nd Street to Mountain View Road and west to 90th Street to access Loop 101. Project benefit: ADOT is adding carpool lanes along 15 miles of Loop 101 from Loop 202 to Princess Drive. The project is scheduled for completion in 2009. * Eastbound I-10 narrowed to two lanes between Avondale Boulevard and 99th Avenue from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday (June 21) for new lane construction. Eastbound I-10 also narrowed to two lanes between Avondale Boulevard and 107th Avenue from 11 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday (June 22) for utility work. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and merge safely approaching work zone. * Westbound I-10 narrowed to one lane between 107th Avenue and Avondale Boulevard from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (June 22) for new lane construction. Westbound I-10 also narrowed to two lanes between 99th and 107th avenues from 11 p.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday (June 22) for utility work. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and merge safely approaching work zone. Project benefit: I-10 will be widened by two lanes in both directions from Loop 101 to VerradoWay to accommodate traffic growth. * Southbound State Route 143 closed between McDowell Road and University Drive from 11 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (June 21) for maintenance. DETOUR: Use alternate routes. * Westbound Loop 101 closed between 23rd and 27th avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday (June 21) for I-17 widening project. DETOUR: Traffic will detour along frontage road. * Southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between Carefree Highway (State Route 74) and Dixileta Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday (June 21); 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday (June 22); and 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (June 23) for new lane construction. DETOUR: Drivers should slow down, merge safely and plan for extra travel time. * Southbound I-17 narrowed to one lane between Deer Valley Road and Yorkshire Drive from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (June 22) for freeway widening work. Southbound on-ramps at Deer Valley Road and Rose Garden Lane and southbound I-17 ramps to Loop 101 closed. DETOUR: Drivers can enter southbound I-17 at Union Hills Drive. Project benefit: ADOT is adding new lanes and interchanges along I-17 between Loop 101 and Carefree Highway to improve traffic flow. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2009. * Westbound I-10 right lane closed between US 60 and Broadway Road from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (June 23) for barrier wall work. Westbound I-10 off-ramp at Broadway Road also closed. DETOUR: Use alternate routes to access Broadway Road.
