Subject: Weekend freeway restrictions in Phoenix area (May 30-June 2); Date: Thursday, May 29, 2008 10:26 PM Weekend freeway restrictions in Phoenix area (May 30-June 2); northbound I-17 closed Saturday night Freeway improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (May 30-June 2). The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recommends drivers allow extra travel time and drive safely while the following work is under way: * Northbound Interstate 17 closed between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (June 1) for freeway widening work. DETOUR: Traffic detoured along northbound frontage road. Drivers also can use 19th Avenue as an alternate route during the overnight closure. Project Benefit: New lanes being added to I-17 between Loop 101 and Carefree Highway will improve traffic flow along busy stretch of Black Canyon Freeway. * Northbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) left lane closed between Chaparral Road and Via De Ventura from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (May 31) for carpool lane work zone adjustments. DETOUR: Drivers urged to slow down and merge safely in work zone. Project Benefit: New HOV lanes will add traffic capacity while encouraging drivers to carpool or use transit services, including express buses. * Northbound Interstate 17 ramps to Interstate 10 at the Stack interchange north of Van Buren Street closed from 10 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday (June 1) for maintenance work. DETOUR: Drivers who normally use these ramps should detour on local streets, including McDowell Road. * Northbound Loop 303 closed at Bethany Home Road from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday (May 31) for maintenance work. DETOUR: Traffic will be detoured along local streets.
