Downtown Phoenix is heating up to a fever pitch because baseball season is back! Thousands of fans will be heading out to the ballpark for the Arizona Diamondbacks' home opener on Monday at 6:40 p.m. and again on Tuesday night at 6:40 p.m. Both games are SOLD OUT! This won't throw a curveball into your plans because The Traffic Lady is your ticket to the fastest way into or around Chase Field. There is also a day game on Wednesday at 12:40 p.m. during the busy lunch rush - so don't rush out without these new traffic tips. Been avoiding downtown because of light rail construction? The Traffic Lady knows that the most intrusive light rail construction is OVER. It's a great time to be downtown! Important Event & Construction Info: Hot off the Wire! · Diamondback Games: Patrons heading to the Diamondback games next week may mix with downtown commuters. Plan for extra time and follow the helpful tips below. Traffic Lady Tips: · Come early! You can park and grab a bite to eat or drink at one of over 90 restaurants and bars. · USE 7th AVENUE!!! It may seem like you are going out of your way, but 7th Ave., is wide, can handle extra traffic, and can be accessed from I-10 and I-17. · 3rd and 1st streets are restricted and will likely back up. Use 1st or 7th avenues as alternates. · If you are coming from the east, take the I-10 and exit Washington. Head west on Washington into the downtown area. Another option for drivers on Washington is to take 12th or 16th streets north to Van Buren, and head west into downtown. · Call the Ambassadors at 602-495-1500 or email at ambassadors@coppersquare.com for personalized directions, and up-to-the-minute traffic and parking information. And Don't Forget These Ongoing Restrictions. · 1st St.: 1st Street is closed between Washington and Jefferson through 4pm Thursday, April 3 to work on a manhole. Traffic Lady Tip: Use Central Ave. to travel north, or 2nd St. to travel north or south. · Washington / Jefferson Streets: Washington and Jefferson streets are reduced to one lane between Central Ave. and 1st St. for utility work. This restriction will be set nightly at 7pm or after egress on event nights, and will be removed by 6am for regular traffic. Cental Ave. remains open. This activity is expected to last through April. Traffic Lady Tip: Use Adams, Monroe or Van Buren to travel east / west. · 1st St.: 1st Street is closed between Van Buren and Fillmore streets for utility work. This activity is anticipated to last through May. Van Buren and Fillmore streets remain open. Traffic Lady Tip: Use 2nd St. to travel north or southbound; or Central Ave. to travel north and 3rd St. to travel south. · Taylor Street: Taylor St. is closed between Central Ave. and 2rd Street during construction of Taylor Place and the Cronkite School of Journalism.
