Date: Wednesday, June 26, 2002 3:34 PM Good News! - On Monday, the Mesa City Council voted to formalize Mesa's participation in the Central Phoenix/East Valley Light Rail Transit Project and the new governance structure for the Project, including a funding commitment for its estimated $26.5 million share of the 1.1-mile project in Mesa (with construction funding contingent upon receiving a full-funding grant agreement). The decision was great news for the Light Rail Project, because Mesa is a vital East Valley connection to the Project and generates significant projected ridership at the end-of-line station planned at Longmore and Main Streets. Mesa's confirmation of its participation allows us to move forward with the Project as planned. The article in the East Valley Tribune about the decision is attached below.
