Subject: Weekend Freeway Restrictions in Phoenix area (September 15-18) & METRO traffic restrictions update Date: Thursday, September 14, 2006 7:07 PM Weekend Freeway Restrictions in Phoenix area (September 15-18) September 14, 2006 The Arizona Department of Transportation says the following freeway restrictions will be in place in the Phoenix area this weekend (Sept. 15-18): Northbound Interstate 17 narrowed to one lane between 16th Street and 7th Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 18) for screen wall construction. Drivers can detour on westbound I-10 starting at the I-17 junction near Sky Harbor Airport and reconnect with northbound I-17 at the “Stack” interchange west of 19th Avenue. The northbound I-17 on ramp at 7th Street and northbound exit ramp at 7th Avenue are scheduled to remain closed until late September. Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in the southeast Valley narrowed to one lane between Elliot and Recker roads and eastbound Loop 202 narrowed to one lane between Recker and Baseline roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 17) for deck joint maintenance. Drivers should give themselves extra travel time and be prepared to merge in the work zones. Interstate 10 narrowed to three lanes in each direction between 67th and 83rd avenues from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 18) for work to prepare the freeway for future rubberized asphalt paving. Crews also are scheduled to work along this section of I-10 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights (Sept. 18-21) next week. Drivers should give themselves extra travel time and be prepared to merge safely in the work zones while the overnight restrictions are in place. Southbound Interstate 17 exit ramp at Thomas Road closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday night to 5 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 16) for guard rail repair work. Drivers should use the southbound exits at Indian School Road or McDowell Road as alternate routes. _____ METRO traffic restrictions update September 14, 2006 Phoenix, Ariz. - The METRO light rail system will be under construction through December 2008, when it will begin carrying passengers. Construction crews are working hard to minimize impacts on traffic. When completed, the METRO light rail line will cover 20 miles through the cities of Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.
