Subject: Effective May 1, 2006, routes that will return to regular routing & Weekend Freeway Closures, Restrictions in Phoenix area (April 28-May 1) Date: Thursday, April 27, 2006 8:09 PM Weekend Freeway Closures, Restrictions in Phoenix area (April 28-May 1) April 27, 2006 There are some freeway closures for you to try to avoid this weekend (April 28-May 1). The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is encouraging drivers to use alternate routes or adjust travel times to avoid the following restrictions: Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) will be closed between State Route 143 and the Loop 101 in Tempe from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (May 1) for work to add quiet rubberized asphalt to the freeway. Traffic will be detoured on northbound SR 143 to eastbound McDowell Road to reach the Loop 101. However, drivers are encouraged to use alternate freeways, including southbound SR 143 and eastbound I-10, to reach the East Valley this weekend. All ramps from the Loop 202 to north and southbound Loop 101 will be closed during the weekend work. Cactus Road will be closed at Interstate 17 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (May 1) for storm drain installation. No left turns will be allowed at the I-17/Cactus Road interchange. Drivers on Cactus Road approaching I-17 will be limited to right turns onto the freeway frontage roads and entrance ramps. I-17 traffic exiting at Cactus will be able to make right turns only. Drivers are encouraged to use Peoria Avenue or Thunderbird Road as alternate routes this weekend. Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between Anthem Way and Daisy Mountain Drive from 8 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday (April 30) for pavement replacement work. The southbound I-17 entrance ramp at Anthem Way also will be closed. Drivers who normally would use that ramp will be detoured south on Galivan Peak Parkway and will use the southbound entrance ramp at Daisy Mountain Drive. The ramp from eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) to southbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in East Mesa will be closed from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (April 29) for interchange bridge construction. Drivers should use other nearby eastbound US 60 exits, including Sossaman and Ellsworth roads, go south and use Baseline Road as an alternate route to reach the southbound Loop 202. For a complete list of freeway and highway restrictions across Arizona, please use ADOT's Traveler Advisory Line at 5-1-1 or log on at www.az511.com. _____ Effective May 1, 2006 the following routes will return to regular routing as displayed in the Bus Book: Blue Line/Route 0/Route 7/Route 8 northbound Route 10 eastbound Route 12/Route 15 southbound Red Line westbound DASH, day route Grand Ave Limited Morning *RAPID SR 51/I-10 East/I-10 West Morning Express 510/ 520/521/531/532/533/540/541/560/571 Morning *RAPID I-17 Afternoon Express 581 Afternoon Route 7 Limited Afternoon The following routes will continue on the current detour: Route 7, southbound Route 7 Limited Morning Express 581 Morning *RAPID I-17 Morning *RAPID SR 51/I-10 East/I-10 West Afternoon Express 510/520/521/531/532/533/540/541/560/571 Afternoon Express Routes 512/570/582/590 Afternoon will continue with the current detour but will now pickup on westbound Van Buren east of Central Avenue, instead of Polk Street east of Central Avenue. *For RAPID schedules please refer to the Web site or printed schedules on board buses or at park-and-rides.
