METRO traffic restrictions update
 
Phoenix, Ariz. - METRO Light Rail will be under construction through
December 2008, when the line will begin carrying passengers. METRO crews
are working hard to minimize impacts on traffic. When it is completed,
the METRO Light Rail system will cover 20 miles through the cities of
Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

LINE SECTION 1
ONGOING RESTRICTIONS

19th Ave/Camelback to Montebello, one lane open in each direction,
completion TBA

Central to 19th Ave. on Camelback, alternating lane restrictions at
night, completion  summer 2006

LINE SECTION 2
NEW RESTRICTIONS
Central & Thomas, eastbound turning lane off Central is closed,
completion end of April

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS
Central Ave. & Indian School Rd. one lane in each direction from 7pm to
6am Su-Th,  completion end of April

Highland to Campbell on Central, one lane in each direction, completion
end of April
 
LINE SECTION 3

Intersection at Monroe & Central, intersection closed, start date May 15

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS
1st Ave between Monroe & Adams, one lane open M-Fr 9:30am to 4:30pm,

ONGOING RESTRICTIONS:

48th  St./Washington (no left turns anywhere 48th St./Washington),
westbound traffic will detour at 48th St., northbound traffic will
detour at Washington, eastbound traffic one lane open, southbound
traffic one lane open, completion TBA

48th St. to 44th  St on Washington, one lane open each direction,
completion TBA

Terrace Rd. from Rural to Apache, northbound road closed, completion
July 4

Apache/McClintock, one lane open each direction, completion June 1

Tempe Canal Bridge at Apache, one lane open each direction, completion
Nov 30

Apache between Terrace & McClintock, one lane open each direction,
completion April 28

Apache/Loop101, southbound entrance at University is closed, completion
spring 2007

Rio Salado Pkwy from Ash to Hardy, one lane for eastbound traffic,
completion May 16

On April 17, 18, and 19, 2006 Southbound Mill Avenue over Tempe Town
Lake will be closed between Washington Street and Rio Salado Parkway
from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. due to bridge and roadway repairs. 

Route 1 Eastbound will follow this detour: 

Regular route east on Washington Street to Mill Avenue
Continue east on Washington/Curry Street*
South on Scottsdale Road West on Rio Salado Parkway
South on Mill Avenue - resume regular route

*Note: Routes 56 Northbound, 66 Southbound, and 76 Southbound will also
use the Curry and Scottsdale Road temporary routing.

Route 1 Westbound will NOT follow a detour; it will take its usual
route.
