The approved light rail stations include: · 3rd Street and Mill Avenue · 5th Street and College Avenue · Orange Street and McAllister Avenue · Dorsey Lane and Apache Boulevard · McClintock Drive and Apache Boulevard · Smith Road/Martin Lane and Apache Boulevard · Price Freeway and Apache Boulevard Proposed stations north of the Tempe Town Lake were not reviewed at tonight's Council meeting, but will likely be approved by the Council at the end of summer to allow time for additional analysis and public review. The Phoenix and Mesa City Councils have each approved stations on their sections of the route. The 20.3-mile starter segment of the light rail line is scheduled to begin construction in 2003 and start operations in late 2006. The initial route begins in Phoenix at 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road and travels through downtown Phoenix and Tempe and about a mile into Mesa, ending at Longmore and Main Streets. The length of the Tempe portion of the initial light rail line is approximately six miles. http://www.friendsoftransit.org
