Subject: Weekend freeway restrictions in the Phoenix area (July 28-31) Date: Friday, July 28, 2006 8:49 AM Weekend freeway restrictions in the Phoenix area (July 28-31) July 28, 2006 Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes this weekend (July 28-31) while the following freeway restrictions are in place in the Phoenix area: Northbound I-17 narrowed to one lane (right 2 lanes closed) between 16th Street and 7th Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (July 31) for temporary concrete barrier wall placement and other work. To avoid traffic delays, drivers are encouraged to use the westbound I-10 "Inner Loop" starting near Sky Harbor Airport as an alternate route this weekend. Drivers who use the westbound I-10 alternate route will be able to reconnect with I-17 at the Stack interchange west of 19th Avenue. Central Avenue will be closed at I-17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday (July 29). 7th Avenue will be closed at I-17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday (July 30). The northbound I-17 on ramp at 7th Street and off ramp at 7th Avenue will remain closed until late September as part a project to build new screen walls along the north side of I-17 in that area. Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed in both directions between Higley and Power roads in northeast Mesa from 10:30 p.m. Thursday (July 27) to 5 a.m. Monday (July 31) for production of the movie "The Kingdom." Traffic will be able to exit and enter Loop 202 at Higley Road. Drivers can use McDowell Road as an east-west alternate route this weekend. Eastbound Loop 202 drivers can exit ahead of Higley Road to avoid traffic at the Higley interchange. Westbound Grand Avenue (US 60) narrowed to one lane (left two lanes closed) between Myrtle Avenue and 71st Avenue from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday (July 28) and Monday (July 31) for utility work. Eastbound Grand Avenue narrowed to two lanes (right lane closed) between 71st Avenue and Myrtle Avenue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday (July 28), also for utility work.
