From: "Friends of Transit" To: Subject: Re: Central Station Transit-Oriented Development Workshop Date: Saturday, September 17, 2005 9:58 PM Re: Central Station Transit-Oriented Development Workshop We are pleased to invite you to join the City of Phoenix to an "open house" to learn about the possibilities of creating a vibrant mixed-use-multi-modal transit-oriented development (TOD) at Central Station. This station is located in Phoenix's Central Business district and serves as the region's primary bus transit facility and will also serve as a major transfer point between bus and the new light rail system opening in late 2008. There are several mixed-use projects and initiatives being planned around Central Station that include: the 20-acre Arizona State University's downtown campus that will house15,000 students by 2012, a new 1,000 room Sheraton hotel, and various residential, retail and office developments. This open house is part of an intensive two-day work session that will bring together stakeholders and other key players to formulate a TOD development concept and implementation program for this station. You are part of a select group of local leaders being invited; we hope you will join us on: Friday, September 23, 7:30 to 9 a.m. ASU-Phoenix Urban Research Laboratory Securities Building, 8th Floor 222 N. Central Avenue (SWC of Central Avenue and Van Buren) * Validated parking is available at the Compass Bank Building (302 N. 1st Ave.) We believe this is a good opportunity to leverage our investment in transit by laying the groundwork and exploring the synergies between Central Station and the surrounding district. Please RSVP to Bo Martinez, 602-495-0398 or by email at bo.martinez@phoenix.gov.
