Yesterday, two of the three unions representing the employees of ATC Phoenix reached contract settlements, averting a possible strike this morning.

The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 428, representing the mechanics servicing the bus fleet, ratified a contract Thursday morning.  Last evening, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 104, representing employees servicing and fueling the bus fleet also ratified a contract.

The third union, the Amalgamated Transit Union, representing the bus drivers, agreed to a 90 day extension in order to reach an agreement.

This is the first time in 25 years that all the parties, working together, have been able to ratify a new contract without the need to strike.  For that, we all owe them our thanks.  We especially acknowledge Teamsters Local #104 Secretary Treasurer Andy Marshall and Business Representative Jerry Ienuso; Operating Engineers Local  #428   Chief Steward  Rick Wolfe; ACT Phoenix General Manager  Larry Kucera - and from the Mayor's Office, Mayor Phil Gordon, Senior Deputy Chief of Staff Ed Zuercher and Deputy Chief of Staff Mike Bielecki.
