Upcoming light rail event to thank community, celebrate milestones

 

An event to celebrate light rail progress and recognize community members instrumental in making the METRO light rail system a reality will be held July 22.  Valley Metro Rail and Friends of Transit are hosting the second annual Partners in Progress luncheon, which is expected to draw more than 600 business and community leaders, including Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, who will head up the celebration.  The event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Phoenix Civic Plaza Ballroom. 

 

Special recognition will be given to outgoing Tempe Mayor Neil Giuliano for his leadership in the Valley’s regional transportation efforts. 

 

Gordon will also announce at the event the recipient of the Light Rail Community Advocate of the Year Award, which recognizes an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to light rail progress.

A video unveiling the latest animation of the METRO light rail system, showing a train traveling on Central Avenue and pulling into the station at Osborn Street, will be played at the event.
