From: "Friends of Transit" To: Subject: Quiet pavement work will close a pair of Valley freeways this weekend (Oct. 15-18) Date: Friday, October 15, 2004 5:23 PM For Immediate Release October 14, 2004 Contact: Doug Nintzel or Alyson Saxe Phone: (602) 712-7355 Quiet pavement work will close a pair of Valley freeways this weekend (Oct. 15-18) Sections of Phoenix area freeways will be closed this weekend as crews continue their work to add quieter rubberized asphalt to Valley freeways. Stretches of the Loop 101 Price Freeway and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway will be affected. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) says drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes while the following freeways are closed: * The Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) will be closed between the Loop 202 and US 60 in Tempe from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 18) for rubberized asphalt paving. Crews will add a one-inch overlay of the quieter pavement to the freeway. Drivers are encouraged to use Hayden Road/McClintock Drive or Dobson Road as alternate southbound routes. The ramps from the southbound Loop 101 to east and westbound Loop 202 will remain open. However, traffic is expected to be slow approaching the Loop 202 interchange and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. Local traffic also will be able to use the southbound Price frontage road. * Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) will be closed between the I-10/SR 51 interchange and 24th Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 18) for bridge deck joint replacement work. The I-10 and southbound SR 51 ramps to eastbound Loop 202 will be closed, as will the eastbound I-10 entrance ramp at 7th Street. Drivers are encouraged to use eastbound Washington Street or McDowell Road as alternate eastbound routes. Traffic will be able to re-enter the eastbound Loop 202 at 24th or 32nd streets.
