From: "Friends of Transit" To: Subject: Sections of Valley freeways closed this weekend for quiet pavement work Date: Friday, October 08, 2004 1:10 PM Sections of Valley freeways closed this weekend for quiet pavement work Sections of Phoenix area freeways will be closed this weekend as crews continue their work to add quieter rubberized asphalt to Valley freeways. Stretches of the Loop 101 Price Freeway, the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway and the Hohokam Expressway (SR 143) will be affected. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) says drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes while the following freeways are closed: * Northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in Tempe will be closed between US 60 (Superstition Freeway) and the Loop 202 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 11) for rubberized asphalt paving. Crews will add a one-inch overlay of the quieter pavement to the freeway. Drivers are encouraged to use Dobson Road or McClintock Drive as alternate northbound routes. The ramps from northbound Loop 101 to east and westbound US 60 will remain open. * Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in Phoenix will be closed between 24th Street and the I-10/SR 51 interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 11) for bridge deck joint replacement work. Drivers should exit westbound Loop 202 at 40th or 32nd streets and use McDowell Road or Washington Street as westbound alternate routes. The ramps from westbound Loop 202 to I-10 and northbound SR 51 will be closed. Westbound Loop 202 drivers going to Sky Harbor Airport can exit at 44th Street and go south onto SR 153 (Sky Harbor Expressway) to reach the airport. * State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) will be closed in both directions between McDowell Road and Washington Street in Phoenix from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 12) for rubberized asphalt paving. All ramps to and from SR 143 and the Loop 202 will be closed. Southbound traffic can use 44th Street to eastbound Washington Street to enter southbound SR 143. Northbound SR 143 traffic will be detoured onto Washington Street. Southbound drivers going to Sky Harbor Airport should use 44th Street and SR 153 (Sky Harbor Expressway) to reach the airport. * US 60 (Superstition Freeway) will be narrowed to one lane in each direction at Stapley Drive from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 10) for bridge improvement work. Meanwhile, Stapley Drive will be closed in both directions at the US 60 bridge from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday (Oct. 11). Drivers are encouraged to use Baseline Road or Southern Avenue to reach nearby north-south streets such as Gilbert Road or Mesa Drive to cross US 60. * Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) will be closed at Elliot Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 10) for pavement repair work. Southbound Loop 101 traffic will be detoured on the exit and entrance ramps at Elliot Road. Drivers should consider using southbound McClintock Drive or Dobson Road as alternate routes.
