From: "Friends of Transit" To: Subject: Freeway Closures for this weekend Date: Friday, September 24, 2004 4:39 PM Friends, Below is the notice from ADOT about freeway closures this weekend to apply rubberized asphalt. Many of you have commented how helpful this information was to you and your friends/colleagues, etc. I asked the ADOT folks to put on this release a way in which you can sign-up to receive these direct from ADOT. They have included it below. Hope this helps. As I mentioned in the previous "rubberized asphalt alert"... there are provisions for EVEN MORE rubberized asphalt in Proposition 400. Good luck in navigating your way around the freeway closures this weekend... David Schwartz Executive Director Friends of Transit david@friendsoftransit.org http://www.friendsoftransit.org _____ For Immediate Release September 23, 2004 Contact: Doug Nintzel or Alyson Saxe Phone: (602) 712-7355 Pager: (602) 203-2216 Sections of I-17, Loop 202 in Phoenix closed or restricted this weekend for quiet pavement work A section of southbound Interstate 17 in Phoenix will be closed this weekend as crews continue their work to add quieter rubberized asphalt to Valley freeways. Meanwhile, part of northbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes for the quiet pavement work. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) says drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes while the following freeways are closed: * Southbound I-17 will be closed between the Loop 101 freeway and Peoria Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 27) for rubberized asphalt paving. Crews will add a one-inch overlay of the quieter pavement to the freeway. Drivers are encouraged to exit I-17 ahead of the full closure point and use Happy Valley, Pinnacle Peak or Deer Valley roads to reach southbound 19th or 35th avenues as alternate routes. The southbound I-17 ramps connecting to east and westbound Loop 101 will be open. However, the ramps from east and westbound Loop 101 to southbound I-17 will be closed. * Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes between Dunlap Avenue and the Loop 101 from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 26) for rubberized asphalt paving. Crews will complete quiet paving work that was suspended last weekend due to rain, under the following schedule: From 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, traffic is scheduled to use the two right lanes along the freeway. The exit and entrance ramps between Dunlap Avenue and the Loop 101 will be available for use at this time. From 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday, northbound traffic is scheduled to use the freeway's two left lanes. At this time, northbound I-17 entrance and exit ramps between Dunlap Avenue and Deer Valley Road will be closed, including the northbound ramps connecting to the Loop 101. * Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) will be closed between Van Buren Street and 40th Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Sept. 27) for bridge deck joint replacement work. Traffic will be detoured on westbound Washington Street to northbound 40th Street to return to the westbound Loop 202. Drivers are encouraged to exit the westbound Loop 202 ahead of the closure and use alternate routes to avoid traffic backups.
