Valley Metro asks for Public Input for July Transit Service Changes The public can comment on proposed transit service changes at four public discussions March 19 -22 held by Valley Metro or make comments via the Web at www.valleymetro.org. The meeting dates are: Tuesday, March 19, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Central Station, Central Ave. & Van Buren St. Wednesday, March 20, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., South Mountain Community College, 7050 S. 24 St. Thursday, March 21, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Glendale Community College, 6000 W. Olive Ave. Friday, March 22, 2 - 4 p.m., Arrowhead Towne Center, 7700 W. Arrowhead Towne Ctr. Transit staff will have informational brochures on hand and displays set up at the various locations. The proposed changes would begin July 8, 2002 and effect several Valley cities including Glendale and Phoenix. Phoenix will extend weekend service hours to approximately midnight on four local bus routes, extend exiting Rt. 30 to South Mountain Community College, extend Rt. 59 to Union Hills Dr., and increase weekday peak frequency for Rts. 35 and 92. Glendale will increase weekday frequency on four routes, implement Saturday service on four routes, increase Saturday frequency on six routes, and extend weekday and Saturday service to about 10 p.m. on 11 routes, and implement Sunday/holiday service on 11 routes. Valley Metro Green Line Detours from Grand Avenue Construction Extensive renovation to Grande Avenue at the Thomas Rd. and 27th Avenue intersection will affect Valley Metro's Green Line route. A detour route will be in effect beginning March 18 and continue until further notice. Completion of the Grande Avenue project is estimated by September 2002. Also, periodic closure of 27th Avenue may occur without notice and will effect service between Osborn Rd. and Grand Ave. causing a temporary detour for Valley Metro Rt. 27.
