From: "Friends of Transit" Subject: To Those Interested in Transit in Scottsdale Date: Thursday, February 20, 2003 12:17 PM To Those Interested in Transit in Scottsdale: The agenda is official. The City Council of Scottsdale will be meeting on Tuesday, February 25 at 5 p.m. to discuss transit issues in Scottsdale. The agenda only addresses The official agenda is located on our main webpage www.scottsdaleaz.gov. Once on the main page, access the Mayor/Council link and then access the current agenda link. The agenda includes six items: 1. Discussion of the transit plan which is anticipated to be a wide ranging discussion and is expected to take the most amount of time. A copy of the Transit Plan will be available Friday, February 21 on through the City's main webpage: access the link for "Transportation, Traffic and Utilities", accessing the link called "Traffic and Transit", and then accessing the link "Transit Plan". 2. Identification of Scottsdale Road as a potential alignment for possible light rail or bus rapid transit system in the future. This identification does not commit the City to any action or funding. It allows MAG to include the alignment as part of its future modeling. 3-6. The remaining four items are agreements with Valley Metro, City of Phoenix and Maricopa County for the provision of various transit services. This is not expected to generate conversations as they are a continuation of agreements we have had in the past. Each of these agreements are for FY 03. Everyone interested in how transit is provided in Scottsdale is welcome to attend. The atmosphere is likely to be informal with a work-study session flavor. But the session is a Council session with action items. These means people may give input. Please read the agenda for more details. Anyone needing assistance at the meeting or with obtaining transportation to the meeting is welcome to call me at 480.312.2526. I will make arrangements as needed. For planning transportation, I would plan on leaving the meeting at 8 p.m. There is no guarantee however, when the meeting will end. In the five years I have been at the City, never before has it been so important that people give their input. Whether you support transit or not, whether you think we are headed in the right direction or whether another way would be better, now is the time to speak up and be heard. I encourage all of you to attend and I appreciate your getting the word out to as many people as possible. Debbie Astin Transit Planner
