4th of July Transit Contest

Friends of Transit wants to know how you use transit!
Enter our contest for a chance to win great prizes!

Have you thought about your plans for Independence Day? You could be headed to Tempe Town Lake, Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix, the All-American Festival in Peoria, Chandler Fireworks Spectacular, or one of the other many events taking place throughout the valley. Or you could be headed to a friend’s house with a great view of the fireworks show or a family barbecue. Regardless of your destination, transit can help you get there! Using transit to get to your 4th of July plans will help avoid parking hassles and fees.

What’s the contest?
To enter, simply send Friends of Transit an email and tell us how you can use transit to get to your 4th of July celebration destination.

What are the rules?
The rules are simple- plan your trip using bus, light rail, bicycle or walking. Try to make it a car-free trip! If you live in an area without bus service, drive to a park-and-ride and finish your trip with transit from there. In your email, please include:

  • Your starting point (major cross streets)
  • Transit Routes you’ll be using
  • Your final destination
  • Your name, email address and phone number (so we can contact winners- your information will be kept private

Entries are accepted until 11:59pm on Monday, July 5.

What resources can help me plan my trip?
Planning your trip is easy! Use the resources at www.valleymetro.org to find bus lines, holiday hours of operation and light rail information. There is a special link to 4th of July events.

Google Maps is another great resource. Go to maps.google.com and click on “Get Directions.” A drop down menu provides options including public transit, walking and bicycling.

What do I win?
On July 6, our panel of judges will review all the entries and select the best one to win the Grand Prize. All valid entries will be included in a random drawing to win one of 4 other great prizes.

Grand Prize:
$100 Mill Avenue District Gift Card (valid at over 90 stores and restaurants)

Other Prizes:
$50 gift certificate to Maizie’s Café and Bistro
$50 gift certificate to Phoenix Zoo
$50 gift certificate to Mesa Arts Center
$50 gift certificate to Tempe Improv

All prizes will include two all-day transit passes so that you can use bus and light rail to use your gift certificates!
